optometry services
At Lahiri Eye Center, we know how important proper eye care is. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of service so you can have the vision you deserve.

We truly believe in routine eye examinations so that you can see as clearly as possible. Once you are prescribed glasses or contacts, it is very important to maintain the health of your eyes. Routine checks ensure your prescription is correct, and allow Dr. Lahiri to diagnose, treat and follow any significant changes or health issues associated with your vision.

To ensure good eye health and vision, we are very proud to offer the following services:

Comprehensive Eye Exams

Comprehensive Eye Exams

On average, we recommend scheduling an appointment once every two years to ensure your eyes are remaining healthy. If you have been diagnosed with an eye condition, however, we recommend scheduling an appointment once or twice a year depending on the severity.

During your appointment, we will review your patient history, visual acuity, perform preliminary tests, and evaluate your eyes’ overall health.

Our exams detect:

  • Nearsightedness
  • Farsightedness
  • Astigmatism
  • Crossed eyes
  • Eye alignment issues
  • Lazy eye
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Glaucoma
  • Dry eye
  • Tunnel vision
  • Other eye diseases and problems

High Blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol also has impact on the health of your eyes. Routine eye exams can help diagnose and treat problems related to these diseases.

Your eye exam will include a series of testing to evaluate your vision and your ocular health. We test for tracking abilities, eye movements, peripheral awareness, eye focusing, eye alignment, and visual acuities.

An eye exam can detect ocular surface and retinal diseases at their beginning stages. We also have state of the art equipment to monitor these diseases.

Dry Eye Treatment

Dry Eye Treatment

Lahiri Eye Center is proud to offer dry eye treatment for our patients. Ocular Surface Disease, also known as dry eye, can occur from certain medications, naturally by aging, or as a symptom arising from systemic diseases such as Sjogren’s syndrome, Rheumatoid arthritis, or Lupus. If you have a minor case of dry eye, you may be experiencing irritation, excessive tearing, fluctuating vision, and/or a burning sensation in your eyes. Excessive dry eyes, or dry eye symptoms that go untreated, have the potential to damage eye tissue, scar your corneas, and impair your vision.

Optilight Lumenis (IPL)

OptiLight is the first and only IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) that is FDA-approved for the management of Dry Eye Disease due to MGD. The treatment is comfortable, precise and proven effective. It uses precise and intense broad-spectrum light to address inflammation that is typically associated with dry eye disease, improve tear break-up time, and increase meibomian gland functionality. IPL also stimulates the collagen in the skin near the eyes.

Collagen is the protein that is responsible for the elasticity in the skin, so when the production of collagen is stimulated it causes the skin to naturally become firmer, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma

Glaucoma occurs from damage to the eye’s optic nerve and can often lead to loss of vision and blindness. To detect glaucoma, our highly trained doctors will perform a proper screening to determine severity, examine the damage, and help you manage your glaucoma.

Early detection of glaucoma is crucial in preventing vision loss and blindness; the earlier the better. However, there is no official cure for glaucoma. There are several treatment methods that manage, slow down, or halt the process. Treatment for glaucoma will vary depending on the stage and severity for each individual patient.

Optomap

The optomap is a digital image of the retina produced by Optos scanning laser technology. It is the only technology that can capture 82% view of your retina at one time.

We recommend including optomap in every comprehensive eye exam. On average, we recommend our patients get their eyes examined once a year. Note: If you have diabetes or other known eye diseases, it is important to follow the exam scheduled recommended by our doctors.

How often should I have an Optomap?
Your doctor will advise based on your individual circumstances but it is generally recommended that you have an optomap every time you have an eye exam. This will ensure you have a digital record of your retinal health on file which can be compared for changes over time.

Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a deterioration of the central portion of the retina, the inside layer of the eye that records the images we see and sends them through the optic nerve from the eye to the brain for processing. The macula, or the center of the retina, is responsible for focusing central vision in the eye and controls our ability to see and process information.

Contact Lens Exams

You can think of a contact lens exam as an add-on to a comprehensive eye exam. A contact lens exam can have several components, including a consultation with the optometrist, measurements of a few key parts of your eyes, a tear film evaluation, and a contact lens fitting.

A comprehensive eye exam is needed to check your overall eye health, your general vision prescription and then a contact lens consultation and measurement to determine the proper lens fit.
